Here are millions of new bloggers come to the Internet with their fresh blogs. At the first view, it’s quite impossible to attract any visitors to your sites since you can’t figure out how many blogs similar to yours are born at the same time. Even if someone comes to your site, possibly he will decide to leave or stay after a quick scan at your homepage in few seconds. So how can you seize the chance of the few seconds to make him stay?

Forget the highlight on text, odd website design or funny images. You audiences have already been immune to these tricks. In that case, why not let your blogs active with Flash animations?

In the following paragraphs you’ll get familiar with how to have Flash animations to boost your blog in three steps.

What things to prepare for Flash animations?

Collecting materials will be a quite big problem. There’re three solutions to gather and make materials for your Flash movies.

1. Download images from image hosting sites. Many image sites like Flickr and Google Image offer libraries of images. However, some of them are copyright protected, so you should send request to the original owners of the image and ask if it’s OK to use the image on your blog.
2. Capture screen of your blog. Use screen capture tools to gather some key point image you want to show at homepage. There’re also some add-ons offering screen capture features like Screengrab in Firefox browser.
3. Record video clips. For how-to or presentation theme blogs, you can add a short demo video. You use camera to record a self introduction video, or just make screencast with screen recording software like Camstudio (free) or DemoCreator (with video editing features).

How to make Flash animations?

Once you finish collecting all resources, it’s the time to start making Flash animations. Here we offer you two ways, depending on different end users for different demands.

1. Generate Flash with Adobe Flash. Adobe Flash is the world leading Flash producing software which allows you to make amazing Flash animations. However, it’s not freeware and you might spend long time to master it, so it’s only recommended to those professional webmasters and bloggers.
2. Use PowerPoint and PowerPoint converters combination. PowerPoint is much common and easier to use for general users, compared with Adobe Flash. You can create a new slideshow and insert all objects you collect into it. By adding animation effect and object decoration, you can also make a vivid slideshow. Then convert the PowerPoint into Flash-based file with some PowerPoint to Flash converters like PPT2Flash.

How to publish your Flash animations?

You should spread your Flash movies as wide as possible, increasing more chances people would watch it and find your blog. One thing you have to know is that many websites and blog platforms accept their specific video formats, but you don’t have to worry since the PPT converter mentioned can handle it easily.

1. Upload Flash to Google Site. You can use PPT2Flash to save your PowerPoint as SWF file which is allowed to upload to Google Site. Remember to leave your blog link at video description bar so people can come to your blog by clicking the links.
2. Embed Flash in your blog. WordPress is one of the most popular blog publishing platforms which offers many customized features to create your unique blog. You can upload Flash file or paste the SWF URL to WordPress and it will appear at your homepage.

Conclusion

Hope this article will help you increase your blog traffic and attract more visitors by making your own Flash animations. With the help of screen capture and PowerPoint to Flash conversion tools, there won’t be so many difficulties to make your blog stand out from the crowd. If you have any new ideas, please share to us, too.

If your computer normally runs very smoothly, you may wonder why it has suddenly started to operate more slowly or why you are seeing more pop-ups than before.  These can signal that a rogue antivirus program has been downloaded into your system.  A rogue program, like Total Security, will create the appearance of security threats and then claim to be the only solution for these risks.

What is Total Security?

Total Security is a close relative of System Security; both of these rogue antivirus programs create dozens of harmless files in your system.  They then run their scans and list these files as infections.  In order to fix the security issues, you must be their protective software.  The computer owner should be aware, though, that neither Total Security nor System Security can actually scan your computer.  The results are false, and the window is nothing but an elaborate advertisement.  There is no protection to be found in Total Security, and in fact, it can cause further issues with your computer’s performance.

The trial version of Total Security claims to be able to run a scan but not remove the infections.  In order to do that, you have to buy the full software package.  But there is no difference, really, between the full version and the trial version.  Neither can scan, detect, or remove existing threats or protect against future issues.

This program, and many of the others like it, are considered to be rogue security software, and for most, the goal is to get you to download and install that full package that Total Security pushes you so hard to get. In order to do that, they can use some pretty overwhelming tactics. Luckily, though, once you understand a bit more about this program and its clones, you’ll have a better sense of what to do next should one become installed on your system. Moreover, you may also better understand how to eliminate it from your computer.

How Does Total Security Become Installed?

Total Security can be downloaded directly by computer users; they may find an ad and opt to purchase this program or they may receive a warning message and believe it to have come from a legitimate source.  Whatever the case, they purchase and install Total Security because they are convinced they have multiple security risks and this will remedy them.  They get absolutely nothing in return.  The software does not have the ability to scan your system and cannot detect or remove any threats.

This does happen, but it is far more common for Total Security to enter your system through a Trojan.  It is useful to think of Trojans like cars: they can carry in their malware buddies and drop them off in your system.  It is common for Trojans to affect adult, gaming, and social networking, as well as those offering instant messaging and free video downloads.  If you download a video or click on an ad or image, it can allow the Trojan to enter your computer.  Sometimes, a Trojan can find its way in even if you do not click on anything.  Trojans commonly associated with rogue antivirus programs are Vundo and Zlob.  Recently, one disguised as an update for Adobe Flash has been promoting rogue programs.

What Does Total Security Do To Your System?

When you know the signs of a rogue antivirus program, it becomes easy to spot them if they happen to enter your system.  Knowing how to distinguish real security warnings from false ones can help you protect your computer far better than Total Security’s useless software can.  A common tactic used by virtually every rogue antivirus program is to flood the computer user with pop-ups.  At first glance, these appear to be from legitimate security programs, and Total Security is designed to prompt you to action without taking a second glance.  One warning you may receive tells you:

Security Monitor: WARNING!
Attention! System detected a potential hazard (TrojanSPM/LX) on your computer that may infect executable files.Your private information and PC safety is at risk. To get rid of unwanted spyware and keep your computer safe you need to update your current security software. Cleck Yes to download official intrusion detection system (IDS software).

Because it says you need to “update your current security software,” many people assume it does, in fact, come from their current security software.  Another reads:

Total Security Firewall Alert
Total Security firewall has blocked a program from accessing the Internet
Chrome Internet Browser is infected with worm Lsas.Blaster.Keyloger. This worm is trying to send your credit card details using Chrome Internet Browser to connect to remote host.

Besides these ubiquitous pop-ups, you will see false scan results.  Again, the files identified as infections are really harmless and have been created solely to create the illusion of security threats.  Remember that this program cannot scan your system.

Keep in mind that while many of these look like the typical pop up advertisements you might expect to see while you’re surfing online, they can take a number of different forms. Some of them even look like those Windows Notification Balloons that pop up out of your system tray (that area that is next to the current time on your computer). No matter where they appear from, though, they are all simply advertisements for the full version of the program, and clicking on any of them will lead you down the same path – the purchase page for the full version of the rogue program.

Other signs that signal a rogue antivirus program are:  slowed computer performance, unfamiliar shortcuts on your desktop or icons on your system tray, and hijacked web settings and/or homepage.

If left intact, Total Security may cause further issues in your computer.  By entering, it leaves a door open for other forms of malware. To ensure that your computer is protected and continues to function normally, it is recommended that you take immediate steps to remove Total Security.

Filters normally block most pop-ups from ever seeing our screen, so if you notice an influx of these ads, it is a good indication that there is a rogue antivirus program, like Trust Cop, installed in your system.  These rogue programs seek to convince computer users of security threats so they will purchase their software.  However, users will find out that the “protection” does not protect.

Trust Cop:  A Rogue Antivirus Program

Trust Cop, TrustFighter, Secure Fighter, Secure Warrior…these are all different names for the same basic rogue antivirus program.  They behave identically and even issue warnings and messages that are identical in every detail except the name.  The WinSoft family contains all of these rogue programs and more.  Their goal is the same as all rogue programs: they use pop-ups and simulated scans to create the appearance that your computer is at risk from several security threats.  The only solution is to buy the software, Trust Cop and the others claim.  But there is no software.  Nothing happens after your purchase to increase security or resolve any existing problems.

Unfortunately, in order to convince you to purchase that software, many of these programs use some pretty frightening tactics. The good thing, however, is that once you understand how programs like these work, you have a better platform to eliminate any that are already on your computer and prevent them from installing themselves in the future.

Signs of Trust Cop In Your System

Because Trust Cop can become installed in your computer without your permission, it is important to be able to spot the signs of a rogue program.  And this will be very easy as you start receiving a flood of pop-ups every time you start your machine.  There are a number of different kinds of ads. One of the most prominent, though, occurs as you turn your computer on each day. When you boot up, Trust Cop launches into a “scan.”  This is really just for show because the results it finds are just harmless files Trust Cop created.  The rogue program identifies these files as security threats and urges you to “protect your PC.”

The hope is that computer users will not read the messages and scan results quickly.  They will see the typical warning signs, with similar logos and slogans and immediately act.  This is why it is so important to read any pop-up carefully before acting, even to close it.  A false scan result from Trust Cop will have the name clearly written at the top, accompanied by a symbol with three interconnecting rings.  In addition to a list of scanning options, you will see that Trust Cop has “found” several security risks.

How can you tell that this is a rogue program and not your legitimate security program?  If you have not started a scan, do not trust it.  If the name is not that of your regular program, do not trust it.  It is better to avoid clicking on the ad in anyway, and close it using the task manager.

You will also receive more traditionally-styled pop-up warnings, claiming that Trust Cop has found security risks, such as Trojans and worms.  If these appear, check for names. Again, if it doesn’t come from your security program, close it.  If you are not sure, look at the language of the warning.  Typically, rogue programs do not use correct syntax and words may be misspelled or used incorrectly.  In some cases, you may notice these kinds of advertisements appearing from your system tray, which is the area next to your computer’s clock.

Trust Cop configures itself to be able to start whenever you boot up your computer.  It remains running but hidden the entire time.  You will that your other programs run much more slowly and simple tasks take much longer.  This is because Trust Cop is using your system resources to power itself.  If your CPU usage is exceedingly high, it is likely that you have a rogue antivirus program installed.

In addition to the impaired performance and pop-ups, you will notice changes in your browser.  Your homepage may have been replaced with one urging you to purchase the full software package from Trust Cop; you may try to navigate to a site only to be redirect to this rogue site.  Finally, you may notice new shortcuts on your desktop and/or flashing icons on your system tray again, that area near your clock.  These are all reliable signs that there is a rogue program in your system.

How Did Trust Cop Get In?

It is useful to think of Trust Cop like a person.  It can either be a guest you invited in and later regretted when it won’t leave or it can be someone who just waltzed right in uninvited and made itself at home.  People who purchase Trust Cop do not intend to buy useless software which does not protect their computer.  They purchase it because they are convinced that there are serious threats to their computer and that Trust Cop can fix them. This is exactly why rogue antivirus programs are designed as they are: they want people to feel panic about security risks and act quickly.

But Trust Cop can also come in uninvited.  Trojans are often bundled with free videos, audio files, and on sites that offer social networking, instant messaging, adult content, gaming, gambling, and warez or pirated material.  Visiting an affected site or downloading an affected file will allow the Trojan to gain access to your system.  The Trojan carries in rogue antivirus programs like Trust Cop, as well as other forms of malware.

If you have downloaded this program intentionally, it is a good idea to contact your credit card company to dispute the charges and immediately take action to remove the program.  If you have the “free version,” picked up from a Trojan, it is equally essential that you remove it as soon as you can.

While people use their computers for very different reasons, one thing they have in common is the desire to protect them and their personal information.  Rogue antivirus programs like SecureWarrior seek to use this desire to protect in order to persuade computer users to purchase useless software.  Knowing about these programs is important so you can both protect your system and your wallet.

The Rogue SecureWarrior

Rogue antivirus programs all have the same goal, which is to convince computer users that they have severe security risks, as well as to convince them that their particular program is the only solution.  SecurityWarrior is no different.  In fact, it is virtually identical to many other rogues, including TrustFighter, TrustSoldier, SafeFighter, and Trust Cop.  They are all part of the WinSoft family.  As such, if you can recognize one, you can recognize them all.  This is important in avoiding the issues that accompany a rogue program, such as pop-ups, slow computer performance, and changed browser settings.  While these programs may be effective in persuading computer users of security risks, they are often the only risk to the system.

The goal of any program that is like this is to get you to download the full version of the program, and those issues you see with each of these programs may prove a bit convincing to novice or inexperienced computer users. Once you learn a bit more about this program and the others like it, though, you may also learn a little about what to do when you spot the signs and symptoms.

What Does SecureWarrior Do?

Like its brothers, SecureWarrior uses pop-up ads and other means to create the appearance of security issues in your computer.  Whenever you boot up your computer, you will see warning messages.  A typical one will tell you:

This PC is NOT PROTECTED!!!

You can then select the option to remove the infections with SecureWarrior.  This is a false message and should be taken as a sign that a rogue antivirus program has been installed.

You will also be greeted by a false scan result window whenever you are on your computer.  This also tells you that you are at risk.  The window looks very similar to those generated by legitimate programs, so take a minute to read it carefully.  You will notice that the name SecureWarrior appears in both top corners.  Knowing your security program is not SecureWarrior, you can then recognize this as a false scan.  But, you may ask, what are all the infections the scan found?  Do I have threats to my system I need to take care of?

This is a good question, and many people assume that there are threats, which is what SecureWarrior wants.  It does display a list, but it is not of infections.  It is a list of harmless files that SecureWarrior created to further their objective.  This rogue program does not and cannot scan your computer.  This “scan result” window is only an ad, albeit a very realistic-looking one.

When rogue programs are installed in your computer, they configure themselves to launch upon start-up.  They continue to run the entire time your computer is on, and they will use a great deal of your CPU.  This causes a general slowdown in your computer’s performance.  By itself, this could indicate any number of issues, but in conjunction with the pop-ups, it is a good sign that a rogue like SecureWarrior has been installed.

SecureWarrior will also try to divert you to its website whenever possible.  You may find that you  have new icons in your system tray or desktop shortcuts.  Your homepage may be replaced with the SecureWarrior site, and you may be directed there when trying to navigate to other pages.  Again, you will be urged to purchase the software so all of the issues with your computer are resolved.  Remember, though, that SecureWarrior is the cause, not the solution.

It is important to note that the advertisements that appear on your computer for this program can pop up in a variety of different ways. While lots of them do look like typical pop up ads, some of them can look like messages from your system. Just as you may see a typical Windows Notification Balloon popping up near your clock, so too can one of these messages mimic that form. That’s part of why they’re so convincing. However, understanding that any message for SecureWarrior is part of the overall sales pitch may help you to better deal with this program.

I Didn’t Install SecureWarrior, Did I?

In some cases, the computer user will intentionally install SecureWarrior, believing that it is a legitimate security program.  This is certainly understandable, given the desire we all have to protect our systems.  Unfortunately, the product does not really exist.  You get nothing in return for your money.  The full licensed version is absolutely the same as the free trial version: they are both useless.

If you didn’t install SecureWarrior directly, it is possible for it to have come in with a Trojan.   In the myth, the Trojan Horse carried an unpleasant surprise for the Trojans.  It is exactly the same in terms of your computer.  The Trojan is disguised and when it gains access to your system, it leaves malware, including SecureWarrior or other rogue antivirus programs.  How does this happen?

Trojans are often associated with adult sites, and indeed, these sites are often affected.  But Trojans are also known to lurk in sites that feature gaming, social networking, instant messaging, and gambling material.  Free videos are also often bundled with Trojans, and they can enter without your knowledge.  A common one is Zlob.  When you download a video, you need a codec in order for it to play.  Zlob masquerades as a codec and gains access to your system.  With Zlob comes the malware.

Whether or not you downloaded SecureWarrior or it came in with a Trojan, it is imperative that you take steps to remove it immediately.

One of the biggest concerns for anyone who decides to live abroad is how to stay connected with loved ones, friends, and colleagues back home. Certainly, the fear of being isolated and not in touch is something that prevents some from deciding to move to another country.

Expensive long distance phone costs and poor quality telecommunications service were once real issues that hampered life overseas. However, times have changed. Current technologies now enable low cost and even free phone calls to and from anywhere in the world. And, the quality and consistency of the connections are crystal clear, too.

Through the use of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology, anyone, anywhere can make a call by simply using a PC and an internet connection. The technology is readily available, convenient, and dramatically less expensive than traditional phone service. Because of this, it’s the ideal communication solution for individuals who have chosen an international lifestyle but still want to stay in touch with contacts back home.

VoIP works very similar to a telephone line, but instead of the phone being plugged into the wall, calls are made through an internet connection. With the use of software from a VoIP provider, it’s as easy as plugging in an inexpensive headset or USB phone and dialing the number that you want to call. If a computer has built in speakers and a microphone, no additional equipment is needed at all.

Skype is the most widely-known provider of VoIP technology. First introduced in 2004, the company has grown in popularity primarily because of their free PC to PC calls. By downloading their software, a user of Skype can call other Skype users anywhere in the world for free.

Skype’s service becomes somewhat more complicated when trying to call someone other than a Skype user. To address this issue, they also offer a “Pay As You Go” plan and a variety of subscriptions that are billed monthly or annually. Prices vary depending on where users call, and there are additional fees to be aware of. Thus, it’s a good idea to read the small print before signing up and placing your first call.

As part of Skype’s subscription packages, they also include voicemail, call forwarding, text messaging, and an online number to enable others to call you from a regular phone to reach you on Skype.

For those who make frequent calls outside of their local area, there are a variety of other VoIP providers that deliver even less expensive options than Skype. One such company, MediaRing Talk has been on the cutting-edge of VoIP technology for over a decade. They are a well-known provider with an easy-to-use service for calling landlines and mobile phones that is particularly geared to expatriates and others living or traveling abroad.

Currently, MediaRing Talk offers free PC to PC calls globally just like Skype, but they also provide free PC to phone calls to eight countries including the UK, Canada, Australia, and China. Rates to other global destinations are amongst the lowest in the industry. The company has also recently announced that they will be launching a new program that will enable members to enjoy unlimited free call benefits to 50 countries for $12.99 per month. The new program will also allow members to take advantage of unlimited talk time on every call made.

“We completely understand the need for reliable, inexpensive communications when living overseas,” says Robert Pearlstein, vice president of business development and marketing for MediaRing Talk. “Our unique business model is particularly well-suited for anyone who wants the convenience and flexibility to call any type of phone without having to worry about racking up long distance harges.”

Another VoIP provider that is a favorite of many expatriates and international travelers is Net2Phone. Like with Skype and MediaRing Talk, users must download software to take advantage of Net2Phone’s service. They offer low per minute rates on PC to phone calls and a variety of broadband phone service plans.

However, they are most recognized for their international prepaid calling cards. The cards are ideal for individuals who don’t have access to a PC or the Internet but still want to take advantage of the lower calling rates that VoIP technology enables. By prepaying for time on the card, cardholders can enjoy rates as low as 5 cents per minute for international calls.

Cell phones are also definitely an alternative to relying on VoIP or local phone service for long distance. However, roaming charges can get extremely expensive and reception might not always be adequate in certain locations. A far less costly and more reliable option is to purchase a prepaid cell phone once overseas for receiving calls and using VoIP on your PC for calling out.

As technology continues to improve, there will undoubtedly be even more advances that will facilitate cost-effective, widely available global communications. In the meantime, anyone who has decided to reside offshore can certainly reduce their costs for long distance by taking advantage of VoIP technology.

As is known to many, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a phone system for both incoming and outgoing phone calls using the broadband Internet – dispensing with the traditional method. Today, VoIP phone system is favored by many self-employed professionals and business houses for its several key features including voicemail, call forwarding, and caller ID.

It needs to be mentioned that VoIP phone system for business that regularly communicates with overseas clients as the savings can be enormous. Switching over to VoIP is not only cost-effective, but also relatively easy if you already have broadband Internet – the basic pre-requisite for using VoIP system. This is not to say that VoIP phone systems will never give the user any problems.

VoIP suppliers believe, and rightly too, that a well-informed user can be a greater beneficiary in using all the extraordinary features VoIP offers at minimal cost. One of the chief attractions of VoIP is sending faxes and the fact remains that many business houses do a lot of faxing.

It has to be conceded that faxing over VoIP is only an incidental benefit and can achieved only with moderate success and that too, after a few settings have been made on the fax machine. The settings include lowering the Baud rate to 9600 and disabling the error correction mode. You must also ascertain from your VoIP provider what codecs they offer, as in most cases a G711 codec would be required for using faxes.

Apart from faxing the most likely common problems that may occur and their likely solutions are:

Not receiving all incoming calls: If the IAD is unable to register with your VoIP provider, then there will be loss of incoming calls. If you have voicemail facility on your VoIP account, then your provider will route the call to your voicemail. You may ask your VoIP provider for providing voicemail, so that calls can be redirected. Another option is a feature called “Call Forwarding upon the Loss of Registration”. If this feature is enabled, then during loss of your Internet connection, the call will automatically get forwarded to a preset number.

Despite having broadband Internet, unable to make outgoing calls due to absence of dial tone: Check for a corresponding light on phone no: 1 provided you have a Linksys router/IAD. If there is no light, reboot the IAD. If the light on phone 1is present, then try connecting a phone directly to the IAD without any devices or splitters between the IAD and the phone. If need be, change phone cords and/or the phone.

My calls sound unclear and quite often choppy: Disturbed audio is usually caused either due to inadequate bandwidth or from Internet congestion. Contact your ISP for a higher level of service with more bandwidth. If you find the problem occurring far too often, let the ISP check your connection. VoIP providers sometimes offer a more compressed codec or bandwidth saver setting. Changing the codec is known to solve the problem in many cases.

There is an echo sound that is annoying: Decrease the volume of the phones to prevent feedback. Take out any separate caller ID’s or splitters.

Static or buzzing noise: Buzzing noise or static is most likely the result of analog or electrical interference into the phone lines or phone. Make sure the cordless phones are charged and do not have weak batteries in the handset. Change channels on the phone to see which one is best. Try connecting a phone directly to the IAD to see if the buzzing ceases.

As most of us know, toll-free numbers begin with one of the following three-digit codes: 800, 888, 877, or 866. However, it is important to know that although 800, 888, 877, and 866 are all toll-free codes, they are not interchangeable. Toll-free numbers allow callers to contact others without being charged for the call. As a matter of fact, the charge is paid by the called party (the toll-free subscriber) instead of the caller. Toll-free numbers have been in vogue for long and have proved immensely helpful by many businesses for developing customer relationships.

Toll free numbers are easy to set up and come with multiple features including audio conferences, professional voice announcement feature, call screening, call recording, call forwarding, auto attendant, and more. More significantly, having a toll free number is an assured means of staying in touch with customers.

Before learning how to obtain toll-free numbers, we must know that there are toll-free service providers called “Responsible Organizations” or “RespOrgs”. The RespOrgs may not be telephone companies but they have access to the SMS/800 database, which contains information regarding the status of all toll-free numbers. RespOrgs are certified by the SMS/800 database administrator, and authorized to manage the toll-free service.

Persons wanting a toll-free number must contact a RespOrg or other toll-free service provider, who in turn, will access the database and reserve a number for the subscriber. This may not be difficult as there are several hundred RespOrgs and toll-free service providers in the United States.

There are subscribers, particularly business owners who are keen on getting what are called “vanity numbers”. A vanity number is an alphanumeric toll-free telephone number that also spells a person’s or company’s name or spells a word or acronym that is chosen by the subscriber. Thus vanity numbers can help customers remember your business and your contact information. One has to ascertain from any RespOrg or toll-free service provider whether a specific “vanity” number is available.

As stated earlier, a toll-free number is referred to as an 800, 888, 877, and 866 by the area code phone number. With a toll-free number, you will receive incoming calls on your existing phone line at no charge to the caller. Please note there is no installation required. You will be able to identify the caller before you answer the call, if you have caller ID enabled on your Ring-to number. You can add on voicemail or you can use existing voicemail box if there is one.

Another question many ask is – How many calls can I get at one time? Please know your toll free number can accept as many calls as your ring-to number can handle. If your ring-to number has call waiting facility, then you will be able to accept more than one call at a time. If you don’t have call waiting facility, excess calls may go into your voicemail. There are also a few service providers that allow toll-free to cellular phone calls. Further, you can have as many toll free numbers as you want to ring into one line.

Obviously, customers love toll free numbers because they will not be required to spend to get information about your goods and services. It is an established fact that having a toll-free phone number for your business increases sales and brings customers closer to your business. There are many different ways business owners can exploit toll free number to increase profits. In all printed stationery, business cards, pamphlets, brochures, and catalogs, make sure the toll free number is prominently displayed. People should be reassured by the fact that the phone call to your business will cost them nothing.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, simply stated, converts your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. As we all know, when calling a regular phone number the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal before reaching the destination. But VoIP allows making a call – directly from a computer or using a special VoIP phone or through a traditional phone that is connected to a special adapter. Moreover in locations such as airports, parks, and cafes VoIP enables you to connect to the Internet and may allow you to use VoIP service wirelessly.

As long as one has Internet access, it is possible to make and/or receive calls at any place and at any time. To appreciate this feature, one must know that even cell phones do not so extensively cover every remote and rural area as the Internet. Needless to state, all the standard features are present and available free – be it three-way conferencing, call forwarding, auto redial and caller identification.

To avail VoIP facility, one needs broadband (high speed Internet) connection regardless whether it is through a cable modem, or high speed services such as DSL or a local area network. Some VoIP services only work with a special VoIP phone, while other services allow you to use a traditional phone connected to a VoIP adapter.

Special VoIP phones will enable you to plug directly into your broadband connection – but if you use a telephone with a VoIP adapter, you can dial just as usual and the service provider may provide the dial tone. VOIP is capable of being integrated with all Internet based applications and services – such as file sharing, video/audio conferencing, and other similar services and applications.

Some VoIP providers charge for a long distance call to a number outside your calling area while other VoIP providers permit you to call anywhere at a flat rate for a fixed number of minutes. It is good to know that if you are calling someone who has a regular analog phone, that person does not need any special equipment to talk to you. Some VoIP services offer features such as three-way conferencing, call forwarding, auto redial and caller identification that are not available with a traditional phone, or are available but only for an additional fee. Another distinct advantage is you will avoid paying for both a broadband connection and a traditional telephone line.

A basic disadvantage with VoIP is the absolute necessity for Internet connection. Further, as all communications take place over the Internet, they will be unsecured and privacy will be not there. Quite a few VoIP services do not work during power outages and the service provider may not offer backup power. Sending Fax messages through VOIP connection is ruled out but the consolation is services such as e-Fax or Callwave may be possible. Another serious drawback is the lack of emergency calling facility. Most VOIP companies have perforce created own emergency call centers to route emergency calls. At least as of now, VoIP providers do not offer directory assistance and/or white page listings.

These days, most people are familiar with VOIP even if they don’t recognize the word. Voice over Internet Protocol is something that many of us use from time to time or even on a daily basis. Services like Skype are a good example of a VOIP system.

Just What is a PBX? PBX refers to Private Branch Exchange, which sounds a little confusing, but is basically a method of switching phone lines back and forth to connect them in the world of offline communication. When referring to VOIP, the system is essentially the same in concept, only it works over a LAN or WAN network. These are data-oriented rather than circuit switched networks which we use in the real world phone systems.

You see, when you make a call on a VOIP system to a phone, a VOIP PBX or IP PBX, is responsible for making the connection between the virtual and the real life version. This is also in effect when you are calling from one computer to another, but there is no translation necessary between data and traditional phone lines.

With VOIP PBX, it’s a very simple matter to create a conference call and have several people in on a call. The technology has made it extremely easy to add new people to a call and without any additional preparation, you’ll be able to turn an ordinary phone call into one between several people. This is particularly useful for business calls where several people need to be in on a discussion or for long distance meetings. Families can also use this to connect on one call, no matter where they are in the world. It’s an amazing technology that still isn’t being used as much as it should.

What Should I Know? VOIP PBX is essential to making your calls online, but in most cases you don’t need to know anything about this. In fact, your VOIP provider is going to be responsible for this area. However, it does help to understand what they are talking about and to realize what some of the potential issues are with this type of setup.
What is VOIP PBX?

The reason some people still refuse to use VOIP is that they worry about the quality and reliability of this form of communication. While this was once a major issue, the technology has progressed to the point that these problems are far less frequent. Before we look at the issues that can arise, it’s important to know that when you communicate online, your voice data is divided into smaller pieces, called packets, for sending.

Possible problems include the following: – Too much information being received by the VOIP PBX Consulting at once. – Packet delay, when a packet gets sent through the wrong relays. – Packets getting jumbled up in the sending and reaching the receiver in the wrong order. – Packets arriving at different times at the receiver, causing ‘jitter’.

The result of having packets get lost or misdirected is a pause and possible loss of data while speaking. This is part of the reason why there is often a delay when using VOIP. This means you’ll need to speak slower when this happens. However, for the most part, the technology works well enough for even business calls and is far more cost effective.

Even though you may not need to know exactly how VOIP PBX works, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the concept. VOIP is a very valuable addition to our communications systems and it is estimated that by 2010, 90% of communications sales will involve VOIP as it is rapidly growing in popularity.
