Data integrity and in-time availability of data has become the top priority for many organizations. This helps them to have a competitive edge over their rivals. The companies are proactively focusing on new data storage solutions to secure and preserve their critical business and customer data. That is why the demand and importance of durable and intelligent storage medium has increased over the years.

IBM is among the world’s top data storage manufacturing companies, which delivers its clients economical storage solutions. IBM is proud to introduce T1600P backup tape drive. IBM T1600P drive is based on compact LTO-4 technology. IBM T1600P LTO4 drive is intelligently developed to provide ultra high speed and exceptional data integrity. Advanced features incorporated in IBM T1600P drive help to optimize the storage capacity and performance. IBM T1600P delivers 800 GB uncompressed capacity.

In order to speed up the read/write operations, IBM has employed 256 MB buffer in the T1600P LTO-4 drive. High speed IBM LTO-4 drive provides advanced adaptive data compression at 2:1. IBM has engineered an innovative DSM (digital speed matching) system that assists the LTO-4 tape drive to reliably perform read/write operations. IBM T1600P offers more choice to the data managers. IBM T1600P provides 4 Gbps fibre channel, ultra 160 SCSI LVD and 3 GB SAS interface. These multi interfaces allows the data mangers to make flexible attachments thus enhancing the backup system’s overall efficiency.

LTO 4 tape format is ideal for departmental data backups, workstations and data intensive environments. LTO4 tape technology is also used by the financial companies. Robust base film of IBM LTO-4 tape provides exceptional per GB cost. IBM has redesigned the architecture of T1600P LTO4 drive and has incorporated new features including advanced error correction and advanced tape threading. These robust and powerful features further elevate the reliability and output characteristics. Other top class brands of LTO-4 tape are Sony LTO4 (LTX800G), Maxell LTO-4 tape (183906), Quantum LTO 4 (MR-L4MQN-01) and HP LTO4 (C7974A).

Good news is that the intelligent T1600P drive is compatible with prior ultrium tape generations. These versions of ultrium tapes are LTO-2 tape (read only) and LTO-3 (read and write). So with IBM LTO4 drive, clients can use the LTO2 and LTO3 media as well. Therefore as a result, the previous investments in tape automation systems, media tapes and drives are secured.

To assure optimized data compression, IBM has employed its patented compression algorithm in T1600P tape drives. Compression algorithm is specifically developed to double the media capacity of IBM LTO4. In compression algorithm of T1600P IBM tape drive, the data compression scheme is dynamically swapped between the pass-thru and adaptive lossless data compression (ALDC) mode. For exceptional data integrity, IBM has developed a separate circuit in the drive that performs simultaneous decompression during the process of data compression. Compact LTO-4 tape technology helps to further shorten the data restore and backup times as the reduced number of tape cartridges will be needed to enhance the backup window. Therefore the data administrators can perform their entire backup storage and retrieval tasks within quick time span.

Tape storage technology has longer useful life than the DVD and CD recording media, which has been a major factor that helped the tape storage format to overtake the DVD and optical storage media. Majority of the tape format use track based linear technology. Track based backup storage system was introduced decades ago and since then has not been significantly changed and enhanced.

In this article, I am going to describe you the benefits and leading edge technologies of new VXA tape format. VXA tape technology has introduced newly developed “digital data packet” mechanism. VXA tape system reads & records the data in the form of digital packets. This new digital packet system has been developed to make data safer and to speed up backup operations. Head to tape alignment of the track based tape format is very complex as compared to that of VXA backup tape technology.

Media of track based data tapes is composed of skinny, long sequential data tracks. Head to tape alignment in track based tape systems have to make tight adjustments for accurate writing and reading of information from the tape. The allowable tolerance in track based backup technology is microscopic, which can result in greater read/write errors. This tight tape to head alignment makes the track based systems more expensive. Track based drives read the stored information by tracing each data track’s outline. This data tracking process is done in sequential order. During this read process, if there is a micro difference between the angle of data track and tape head or the data track is distorted, then this causes a read error and your precious data is lost. There major causes for this can be accumulated debris, drive tensions variations, tape wear and stretch and temperature changes.

On the other hand, if we take a look at the VXA tape format, it provides its users more benefits as it does not depend on the complex alignment of tape to head. The need of head to tape alignment has been eliminated in the reliable VXA tape format. In VXA tape format, the fundamental way of reading & writing information has been changed. Instead of traditional data tracks, digital packets are used by the VXA tape drive to restore and write the data.

At first the data is broken into smaller digital data packets. An ECC (error correction code) and individual address is assigned to each of the small data packet. VXA tape drive writes these data packets on to the tape in form of strings. In data write operation, a pair of alternate azimuth is recorded by the VXA tape drive during each drum cycle. VXA tape technology has introduced newly developed “digital data packet” mechanism. VXA tape system reads & records the data in the form of digital packets.

VXA drive features a second trailing head, which reads the digital packets which have been written on the VXA tape media. If the drive finds an error in the data packet, then the tape drive will re-write this affected data packet on the fly. This process is not possible in the tracking tape drives. These powerful features make VXA more cost effective data tape.

Laptop Buying Tips

I must admit that I’d take a laptop over a desktop machine simply by virtue of portability.  Think about it.  With a laptop, one can fold up and take their digital life (work, games, applications, entertainment system) anywhere with ease.  It’s difficult to do this with a desktop box when it’s shackled to the wall with wires. Whether you’re in the market for a new laptop to replace your old one, or are thinking of buying your first laptop and don’t know where to start, there are a few suggestions that you can use to maximize the pleasure of your purchase.

Test Drive Before Buying

You wouldn’t buy a brand new car without taking it for a test drive, right?  The same logic holds true for laptop computers.  Many users purchase their laptops online (newegg.com), and the process, most of the time, is incredibly convenient in my experience.  But the problem with buying a laptop online is that you don’t  know how the keyboard feels, or how well the screen displays video, or if the case is made out of some material that attracts unsightly fingerprints, or whether it’s too heavy to lug around, and the list goes on and on. Finding lower prices and the convenience is why so many users shop online.  But when buying a laptop, sure, search around online for a model that catches your eye, write the model number down, and pay a visit to your local brick-and-mortar electronics store to see if they have that model in stock so that you can give it a test drive before buying it on the web.

Install Your Own RAM

The more RAM your laptop has, the speedier it’s going to feel.  Let’s say you buy a laptop that comes stock with 2GB of memory; you check the specs and you realize that your laptop is expandable to 4GB or RAM.  See how much it costs to max out your laptop’s memory from the seller and compare that price to buying a separate memory module and installing it yourself. While a do-it-yourself operation can save you money (and teach you quite a bit), you still need to do a little homework.  Before buying laptop memory, make sure that you know the proper type of RAM module your laptop takes and that you have an empty slot for the new memory module to live in.

Know Your Accessories

Many first time laptop buyers don’t realize how important battery life is.  If you’re not near a wall outlet, then you’re pretty much stuck with battery power if you want to use your laptop.  When buying your new laptop, see if a spare battery is an option.  It’s always best to go with a battery that was specially made to go with your model.  If it all possible, try not to buy after-market batteries that weren’t specially designed to compliment your laptop.  They may be cheaper, but they probably store less power to make up for the price cut. I don’t know one person that’s in love with their laptop’s touch-pad.  Less precise than a traditional desktop optical mouse, laptop and notebook touch-pads feel like they should only be used as a last resort.  Consider buying a wireless optical mouse for better control.

Go Fast

I don’t think anyone ever complained that their computer was running too fast.  If  you can spare the cash, get the faster processor, double the memory, extend the storage.  It would be a shame to spend the next couple of years with a laptop that cannot keep up with your computing demands.  In order to avoid buyer’s remorse, you’ll want to remember the saying “You get what you pay for”, and this usually holds true when you’re dealing with hardware in particular. A faster processor and more memory means that you’re prepared for the future.  As applications get more complicated internally, the code it takes to run them is going to need more juice from your computer for optimal performance.  When in doubt, upgrade your options.

Have you felt some problems while using the new Windows 7 operating system. Though it is the latest Microsoft’s release. But as it is coming in notice that Windows 7 still has some bugs that needs to be resolved. As a whole the operating systems is showing great response but still the freezing issues in Windows 7 needs to be sorted out. As the freezing may cause you loose some very important data that you are working on. The main reason for your system suffering from this problem is that your system doesnot fulfill the minimum hardware requirement specification. As a result of you ae working on a a number of programs and applications, your RAM will not handle this and will result in freezing. Get a new 2 GB RAM for this situation or get an extra RAM.

Few days ago one Pal of mine came to me and told me that he is having this Windows 7 freezing problem. He was not sure whether this is due to some specific program running at that time on the computer or is it due to any bug of Windows 7. I gave him a few suggestions like updating his drivers installed on the computer, to checking the RAM in the computer – that is should be of 2 GB, and suggested him to visit the Microsoft’s website for any new update and solution on this freezing problem.

There is nothing worse than a Blue PC screen at startup time. Panic sets in, and within a few minutes of trying to problem solve, most of us are gibbering wrecks of anxiety and frustration. There are a number of reasons why a computer can freeze at startup. Viral infections are an obvious problem, and probably the most commonly attributed cause of PC issues. Also blamed are the wickedly designed Trojan ware and spyware programs which many of us are downloading without being aware of it until it is too late.

Another startup killer is an overloaded system – typical of the Windows7 upgrade with all its extra features – where excessive programs are booted when the red button is thrown. Caching, paging and disc errors are often the result as program loadings compete for limited space in the system. The result? Slow, sluggish, unresponsive personal computers that make us wonder why we bought them in the first place! Reducing the number of programs in the startup folder can help, especially with Windows7.

Other problems include internal incompatibility – when the drivers of the hardware in your system are not compatible with the new operating system. Updating the drivers to the latest levels sometimes helps.

If you have done all this and you are still getting the blue screen, then it is time to look deeper into the system and see what else may be wrong. One sensitive area, and one which is often ignored until the last moment is an overloaded, clogged Windows registry – the place that Windows uses to keep a track of all the files, programs in your system.

Cleaning the registry out occasionally, and maintaining it for obsolete files and errors will aid your computer, making it start up more quickly and run more efficiently, as well as making it much more stable, as often the errors in Windows are caused by errors in the registry.

During upgrading, the registry is particularly vulnerable to errors, and should be cared for just like the drivers you have recently updated. One of the best ways to maintain your registry is to use a free repair tool like Pc Doc Pro. We recommend this tool, and you may be pleasantly surprised by the results!
