The price reception and channel selection is better than cable but in some area customer service and access to local channels can cause problems. Dish network offers wide range of channels to select from their laid out menu. The TV comes in quick with excellent reception of channels without any snow or fuzz.

Dish network offers one year warranty on their products. The receiver and the remotes also works in superb manner. Remote is capable of multi-tasking. The picture quality and the reception of the signals are unprecedented as compared to the cable network. The satellite TV offers DVD quality of picture and perfect sound quality as well.

Dish network offers a wide variety of channels to view. It is suggested to activate the parental lock immediately after the purchase of the dish network system. Dish network also offers various shopping channels for the ones who love shopping from home. It has lesser commercials to air which is quite pleasant as compared to the cable TV network.

Dish network allows you to watch separate programming on two televisions with one Dish TV network receiver. Some people do not like the steel colored dish and like to paint the dish to blend with the color of the house. It is definitely not at all recommended as painting the dish results in loss of signals. Moreover, obstruction due to building, trees, mountains, high tension power lines also result in loss of signals. Dish should be installed in such a place where it receives clear signals free from any obstruction.

Eenie meenie, miney mo – to which satellite TV service shall I go? Choosing between Direct TV (it is really called Directv) and the Dish Network is like deciding which political party is more corrupt than the other. It is all a matter of your perception of the programming and preference. Is one really better than the other? Not really. They even have similar marketing promotions like a free satellite TV system when you purchase their satellite TV receiver or buy a certain programming package.

If you go by the number of customers alone, Directv would the outstanding choice. However, that is not necessarily true. They just have a lot more money to spend on advertising. How about price? Should you go by price alone to decide on a satellite dish network or a Direct satellite TV? The answer is no. Each of these satellite TV providers offers something a little different, which could make or break the choice, depending on preference. There is that pesky ‘preference’ thing again!

First of all, let us look at what they both have in common. Both companies present similar deals like free installation or a free satellite TV system. When it comes to movie and local television programming, the pricing is practically the same. Both the Dish Network and Direct TV offer DVR or digital video recording. With your Direct satellite TV however, you could upgrade to the Directv Tivo option for a nominal fee.

The differentiation is in the programming offered to subscribers. If you are aiming for a more international flavor, then the Dish Network would be your best bet. They have networks available in foreign markets that are broadcast in a variety of languages. So if you have transplanted yourself in the United States from somewhere else, chances are you might be able to catch the news and other shows from your homeland. Direct TV does have some foreign programming, mostly on the movie channels, but not the scope that the Dish Network offers.

Now, Directv subscribers have a plethora of options when it comes to American sports. Football, baseball, hockey, NASCAR … these are important to sports fans. When the major sports have play-offs like the NFL or NBA, you can count on those rabid sports fans purchasing a ‘pass’ which buys a whole block of games. The Dish Network does offer sports, but they are more global in their choices. You will likely find rugby, lacrosse and soccer just as much as the football or baseball. They just don’t have as much of a selection. So, if sports are your thing, then going for a Directv dish and satellite system is the best choice for you.

Now you have a perspective from both sides of the two major satellite TV service providers. Both offer similar programming. It is choosing the little things that will influence your decision. Think about the Directv Tivo option. Think about the future possibility of Directv HDTV. If having these things in the future is important, then perhaps your mind is already made up, unlike that decision about which political party is more corrupt …

Satellite TV was the rainbow after the storm in my life. I had just left my drudge of a job, as an overworked sales clerk. I was bored at home, feeling really low. I did a lot of looking around in stores and window shopping just to get out of the house. I saw a promotion in the window of one of the video stores in town. It was for a satellite TV system on sale. Since I didn’t have cable TV At the time, this ad really attracted me.

I went in and had a look at the quality and content of the satellite programming being shown on one of the TV sets showing it. The picture was so impressive. The picture quality was so crystal clear, and sharp. The brochure the clerk provided me indicated that there were over 50 channels to watch. Of course I jumped at the chance to brighten up my life.

That evening the store owner installed the dish. He laid the cable and hooked everything up. The system was turned on and then nothing. The receiver had to wait to be activated. This took over 24 hours to occur. When it started working it was terrific. It featured all the movie channels one could wish for. HBO, Cinemax, the Movie Channel, the independent Film Channel, and more. There were more sports channels than one could watch. MTV quickly became one of my favourites. Shows like Road Rules, and The Real World, made my day. It was like being in touch with a world I had never known.

Satellite TV signal reception has vulnerabilities. During heavy rain or snow storms, the amount of data carried in the signal is reduced, sometimes so much so that the computer which constructs the picture on the screen, can’t do its job. When this happens little blocks pop up on the screen. This is called picture break up. If the rain or snow storm becomes more heavy, the data will became so reduced that the video freezes its movement. The computer crashes. Unplugging the receiver, removing and reinserting the smart card usually fixes the computer crash. When the storm has passed and the dish can receive, the satellite TV data at a normal signal strength, everything will work, normally once the receiver is plugged in and turned on.

When I moved residences, I had to reinstall the Satellite TV dish. This involves attaching a mast to the wall of your house, with a clear view of the southern sky. That means no trees, houses, or anything, in the way of the line of sight the dish has to the satellite location in the sky. The mast must be levelled vertically. The satellite dish is placed on the mast and set to the approximately height and direction of the satellite location in the sky. The receiver is then connected to the wire lead from the dish, and the TV. When the receiver is turned on and put in tuning mode, a graph will display the satellite signal strength. The satellite dish is moved ever so gently by a hairs width, up and down, side to side, until you reach the highest satellite signal strength. This gives you the best chance of viewing longer during a rain or snow storm.

On the whole satellite TV is the best TV viewing you can experience. You usually get more for your dollar, and it’s worth every penny spent.

Today, television is all about choices. There are hundreds of channels from which a person can choose, many of them geared toward specific interests such as history, sports, news, golf, cooking, and the list goes on. In the infancy of TV, this was certainly not the case, where there was one, maybe two channels to watch. But now, with the cable TV and satellite provider vying for customers, the options are vast.

Satellite TV comes into your home via communications satellites up in the atmosphere. You are required to have your own smaller satellite dish, aimed at the southern sky, and a receiver box (much like a cable box) connected to your TV. Satellite TV service first began in the early 1980′s. These early systems were expensive, and required a rather large satellite dish. It wasn’t until the 1990′s when the systems became more manageable and affordable, and a popular option to cable TV, which had its own little monopoly going at the time. But that quickly began to change.

For a moment, it looked like satellite TV had an edge over cable TV. But, with the onslaught of digital cable, companies are neck and neck, and provide very equivalent services. The type of service you want is up to you. If you decide to go with a satellite TV provider, you will have the option of going with either the DISH Network, or DirecTV. Both offer a variety of packages and options (or programming tiers) that you can use to cater to your television viewing level and lifestyle.

When choosing a satellite TV provider, you will want to look at the channels they each offer, the prices for the different levels of programming, the equipment costs, and the contract specifics. More than likely, there will be little discrepancy in the channels offered by either provider. They both offer all of the basic channels, in addition to a large amount of movie, sports, and music channels. The prices for the programming packages will likely be equivalent as well. This is for your benefit in that the competition will help keep costs relatively reasonable for the customer.

With satellite TV, you will have to buy equipment. This includes a satellite dish, and one or more receivers, depending on how many rooms you want to be able to view the satellite channels in. Often, a satellite TV provider will offer freebies, such as a free dish or free two-room receiver for signing up, or even free channels for a limited time. Before you make a choice, look for sales and offers just like those. And now, satellite TV providers might even offer HDTV receivers at no cost as well. The incentives can be quite attractive.

You should be aware that there are certain drawbacks to satellite TV. Although you will find that your TV picture is often much clearer than with regular cable TV, a satellite TV signal is subject to interference in the atmosphere that can cause an outage of service temporarily. Such things as bad weather and sunspots will give you nothing but a blank screen. This is not something that can be fixed by a satellite TV provider, unfortunately. Another drawback is that you might not have access to your local stations, especially if you live in a smaller town or a remote area. In order to get those, you will then either have to subscribe to basic cable, or try to get an antenna to pick up local TV channels.

Yet another downside to satellite TV is that a provider will require you to sign a lengthy agreement, sometimes as much as two years, especially if you want to take advantage of the incentives they offer. You can get out of it, but for a very hefty fee. This differs from cable in that you can cancel your cable TV service at any time with no extra penalties.

If you want to use satellite TV, or you have to due to living in a remote area without access to cable TV, you will want to make sure you choose the right satellite TV provider for you. The best way to do that is by visiting their websites, and by asking people that you know who use satellite TV. Satellite TV is still an affordable option, with many choices available to the customer. And a satellite TV provider will likely offer many incentives to get you to sign on the dotted line.

Satellite TV is TV delivered by way of orbiting communications satellites located 37,000 km above the earth’s surface. To start a Satellite TV we have to locate a transmitting antenna at an uplink facility. Uplink satellite dishes go towards the satellite on which its signals are transmitted to & are very large in diameter, say about 9-12 meters or 30-40 feet. This large diameter gives a perfect positioning & a clear signal reception at the satellite. The satellite signals are retransmitted to Earth through transponders with a different frequency.

Satellite TV is much similar to the broadcast TV. Satellite TV is a wireless system for delivering television programming directly to a viewer’s house. But in broadcast TV the major problem is of range because due to Earth’s curved surface the signal line of site is broken many times. The other problem which broadcast TV gives is that there is much interruption in signal or the picture is distorted in the viewing area. Satellite TV solves all these problems of the range, broadcast signals, etc.

As due to Earth’s surface the problem comes in signal but as satellites are high in the sky, the coverage scope for the customers is much more. They transmit & receive radio signals through satellite dishes which are a sort of specialized antennas.

The first Satellite TV was relayed from Europe to the Telstar Satellite over North America in 1962.Canada’s Anik I, launched in 1973, was the first domestic North American Satellite to carry television. There are three different types of television stations that people can receive in developed countries. These are terrestrial, cable, and satellite. The terrestrial channels are those that are available through a normal television aerial. The number of different stations that can be received this way is limited but they are free. Cable television is received via underground cables and involves having a special box that decodes these signals. Cable television is available via a number of subscription services. You can receive different combinations of channels based on the level of subscription that you pay for. Satellite television is similar to cable television, because you need to have a special box and also have to pay a subscription. However, the television signals are not received via underground cables, but are received from a group of satellites beaming onto a special satellite antenna, or satellite dish.

There are a number of issues that you need to consider before you decide whether to have cable television or satellite television. Obviously cost is one, as is the choice of channels available. The main issue relates to the satellite dish itself. You need to ensure that you have the required planning permission to be able to erect a satellite dish, especially if it is gong to be attached to the outside wall of a shared building, such as an apartment complex. You may well find that there are no issues, but it is better to make sure before you have the expense of paying for the dish, and then have to take it down.

The actual position of the satellite dish needs to be free from any obstruction to enable it to receive the signals from the satellites clearly. Common obstacles are another building and trees. Many people don’t realise that trees and thick shrubbery can actually prevent the satellite signal from being received. It can be very expensive to call out an engineer to fix your reception if it turns out that you simply needed to trim back a few branches. It is important to maintain any trees that are close to the antenna to allow you to have uninterrupted satellite television viewing.

As of December 2005 Dish Network exceeded the 12 million-customer mark, living up to its reputation as the fastest growing digital satellite television provider in the country. The company has attracted more than 6.7 million subscribers since 2001 – that’s more new customers than any other satellite or cable company in the past five years. In January 2005, it reached the 11 million-customer mark, meaning that, in the past year alone, Dish Network added more than a million subscribers.

Dish Network’s parent company, EchoStar, is in the NASDAQ 100 and is a Fortune 500 company. The company has been extremely innovative over the years, introducing cutting edge equipment well ahead of other TV service providers. They were the first to introduce satellite receivers with built-in digital video recorder (DVR) capabilities, and the first to have a DVR that makes it possible for subscribers to record and view two different shows at the same time. Dish Network has also pioneered high definition technology, offering the widest range of high definition programming (HD) available. They were the first to introduce a high definition DVR. They now offer more than 1700 hours of HD programming a week, with HD options in movies, sports, news and weather.

Thanks to its rapid growth and innovative spirit, Dish Network is now the third largest TV subscription service in the U. S. Offering hundreds of channels, the company is constantly adding new networks and more programming. In 2005 alone, they added the NFL Network, College Sports Television, ESPNU, Fox Reality TV and ten HD VOOM channels. With a new interactive feature called Dish Home, viewers can watch six networks on a single screen. Dish Network now offer more than 100 international channels that cover a range of 25 different languages. Sirius satellite radio, another recent addition, offers the best in 24-hour commercial-free radio, with programming in an incredible range of musical styles, as well as the best in talk shows and comedy. Martha Stewart and Lance Armstrong are both on Sirius.
