The MacBook Air MC968LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop offers most of the features of its updated larger and smaller cousins, ultra-speed data and video transfer, Thunderbolt device daisy-chaining and many features, the others lack, a 64 GB solid-state drive.

The Apple MacBook Air MC968LL/A features all of the upgrades that Apple has included in its MacBook Pro 13.3-inch laptop and its MacBook Pro 15.6-inch laptop, such as the ultra-speed bi-directional Thunderbolt data/video connector and its daisy-chaining ability. It supports the DisplayPort video interface that allows one to interface various video devices such as high-definition monitors or, with the proper adapter, a standard VGA display.

The key feature the MacBook Air has that the other MacBook Pros lack is a 64 GB solid-state disk drive. That’s right, the MacBook Pro uses a solid-state disk drive so that startup is instant and reading and writing to disk is just as quick. The 64 GB solid-state drive should be have more than enough storage space so that, unless one is storing huge video files on the machine, one will have more than enough time before one has to purchase an external hard disk drive to back up the solid-state drive.

Really, though, given its screen sized and its network-centric orientation through its support of WiFi standards 802.11 a/b/g/n, the small-screened MacBook MC968LL/A is really more suited as the step between a tablet and a full-featured laptop. It also supports two mini-USB ports through which one can interface a wired Ethernet connection with the proper adapter.

Small, the 11.6-inch diagonal display supports up to 2560 by 1600 resolution, making this an obvious candidate for use with 3D applications. Apple certainly gets its money’s worth out of the Thunderbolt port in a device that is only 11.8 by 7.56 by.68 inches and which weights 2.38 pounds.

It also features the latest Bluetooth technology at 4.0 so one can use Bluetooth devices with it, as well as Thunderbolt daisy-chained devices. Bluetooth more than lends itself the MC968LL/A as the laptop/netbook actually can operate independent of a network for up to 5 hours on its battery. It pays to carry a spare charger, however, for most needs, the 5 hours should be enough.

The MC968LL/A uses a 1.6 GHz Intel Core I5 dual-core processor and since it also runs the latest version of Apple’s operating system OS 10.7X (Lion), it should be able to multi-thread and multi-task easily. The MC968LL/A comes with 2 GB of memory installed that is upgradeable to 4 GB and uses the capable Intel 3000 graphics chipset.

Like other MacBooks, Apple has eliminated the buttons that most trackpads have included and has expanded the size of the trackpad, as well as its capability. Now, one can access and use the trackpad to handle single-tapping, double-tapping, swiping, as well as customized multi-finger movements.

The MC968LL/A supports excellent audio reproduction through its speaker capability and when that is combined with the FaceTime forward-facing camera, it can become a sensitive videoconferencing or phoning device.

The MC968LLA has access to all of Apple’s software, so one can access the iTunes store as well as the app store and since it uses the flash drive as its hard drive, they appear in an instant.

In a funny twist of fate, when Apple decided to validate a segment of the market, it seems to bring with it a crowd of competition that can easily determine people to lose sight of the Apple as AcerAspire and ASUS Zenbook 13.3-inch laptops are now competing directly with the latest MacBook Air both of which feature the second-generation Intel-based processors and up to 4GB of system memory.

The Asus Zenbook is another of the “me-too” crowd that has joined the rapidly growing ultrabook market. This market is typified by high-definition screens – 1600 by 900 for the Zenbook – Windows 7 and ultrathin sizing as the aluminum-bodied Zenbook is only 12.9 by 8.9 by 0.8 inches and weighs in at 2.87 pounds. The Aspire is 8.5 by 12.6 by 0.7 and weighs about 3.1 pounds, so it is a tad heavier than the Zenbook but its screen is 13.6-inches diagonal while the Zenbook is 13.3. Both are equipped with Windows 7.

The Zenbook, whose chicklet-style keyboard has a reasonable feel, does feel a bit more rubbery than the Aspire, but then, again one can point out that the Zenbook does use rubberized keys so that’s necessity.

Where the Zenbook competes directly with the Mac and outshines the Aspire is in solid-state “disk” storage. The Aspire feature 20 GB, while the Zenbook features 128 GB. This means you have instant access to any data you may have on the screen if you put the PC to sleep for a time. Wakeup time is about 2 seconds, like the Aspire, for “sleep” and about six seconds for a “deep sleep.”

Like the Aspire – and their template the Mac – the Zenbook is ultrathin and it does sport, like the Aspire a second-generation Intel-based Core I5 dual-core processor. Like the other second-generation Intel-based processors, the Zenbook’s processor supports Turboboost mode in which it will automatically speed up from its normal 1.6 GHz speed to 3 GHz to handle some applications.

Like the Aspire, the Zenbook is “instant-on” – it takes about two seconds to power up fully from “sleep” mode. Once it is in full operation, the network-ready Zenbook will recognized WiFi 802.11 b/g/n nodes. This means you can use the thin Zenbook with any mobile hotspot you find (n) as well as with older home routers and networks that only support b/g. It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and any devices that can be paired with it.

Both the Aspire and the Zenbook have about six-hour battery life, which is somewhat disappointing in computers their size as the thin Aspire and the super-thin Zenbook, both aluminum-bodied, do tend to be powerhogs, although the Zenbook does give you an on-screen power use Wizard.

Like the Aspire, the Zenbook delivers great sound thanks to the Bang and Olufsen Sonic Center speaker system that the Zenbook supports.

Like the Aspire, the Zenbook supports two USB (standard) ports, one USB 3 port (mini), an audio jack, a DC charger input, micro-HDMI that, with the proper interface cable, can be used to hook your Zenbook to a high-definition video system and speakers, so this system can be the heart of any high-definition video system that has the ability to surf the net. There’s also a Gigabit hardwired port available as well as a mini-VGA output and an SD reader.

Like the Aspire, the Zenbook has a front-facing 0.3MP camera built-in for videoconferencing.

About the only problem we found was a lack of standardization in the trackpad and a variation in each one’s quality.

These changes are huge in the world of laptop gaming as they raise the bar for the competition. ASUS has not only added memory capacity, disk capacity and graphics, but it has gone one better by using Intel’s latest quad-core I7-2670QM processor whose system software has been optimized so that each core can be used for multi-tasking.

In addition, the G74SX-AH71 runs Windows 7 Home Premium, Microsoft’s 64-bit system software. That software, plus changes to the system enable the G74SX-AH71 to score P2008 in the 3D Mark II routine and P9180 in the 3D Mark Advantage, making it one of the fastest gaming notebooks in the class.

As noted, Asus has included Nvidia’s latest GTX 560M graphics chipset with 3GB of GDDR5 memory, which means that the video capability of the G74SX-AH71 is huge. It not only handles high-definition, but it also delivers resolution of 1920 by 1080 so that not only will the G74SX-AH71 handle gaming easily, but it can also act as the hub of a high-definition entertainment system with its HDMI interfacing.

Supporting Intel’s Turbo processor mode, the G74SX-AH71 is a gaming laptop that uses Intel’s optimization to the fullest. As noted, the quad-core I7 has been optimized so that each of its processors can use Intel’s multi-threading which allows each processor to handle two tasks at once. Since this processor operates at 2.26 GHz in native mode and 3 GHz in Turbo mode, you actually have up to eight threads available for processing.

The ASUS implementation supports four selectable computing modes so that the laptop delivers top performance at all times. The 17.3-inch screen uses a combination of LED backlighting and LCD to deliver not only fine colors but also good performance. The color palette is rich as the G74SX-AH71 has been optimized for gaming. This immersive technology delivers sharp images that give you fine gaming clarity or for use with high-definition video. The audio has been optimized and the speakers feature built in subwoofer technology for great lows and continue that sound delivery well into the high range.

That the G74SX-AH71 has been optimized for gaming is easy to see from its construction. For example, the extra-large keyboard supports a separate number pad, much like a desktop and the extended keyboard also has rubberized palm rests for comfort. The adjustable rear feet also give the G74SX-AH71 up to a 5-degree incline for added comfort.

One thing about laptops that operate at more than 2 GHz with lots of memory is that they tend to run very hot, unless you they have been specially engineered to handle the heat load created by the processor. The G74SX-AH71 has been engineered so that a set of uniquely placed vents pulls air through the notebook and shunts it away from the system so that it remains as cool as possible.

The G74SX-AH71 has been built not only for gaming but can connect directly to high-definition video screens. It Includes an HDMI port, three USB 2.0 outputs and a high-speed USB 3.0 output. It will also work as a WiFi device as it has built in 801.11 b/g/n capability. It can not only interface with your home WiFi LAN, but you can hard-wire it through a standard Ethernet port.

Taken together, ASUS claims that it is now at the top of the gaming laptop world with its G74SX-AH71 are true. This is a very serious piece of equipment, ready to work.

Protection and management of corporate data has become challenging over the past decade, due to increased cybercrime and remarkable growth in E-businesses. Interruption in business operations caused by data loss can result in lost revenue, whereas failure to recover data can make the business inoperable. You can overcome such disasters by creating copies of your mission-critical data, in short, install a backup system.

Small & medium enterprises with tight budgets, slim IT staff and growing data amounts have long trusted the world-renowned DDS (Digital Data Storage) tape format. Sony is a technical expert of DDS tape format and provides highly durable and smart solutions for the protection of valuable data assets.

Sony DDS 4 media tape system’s fast speed, compact size and high storage capacity provide excellent solution for mid-sized network systems, workstations, enterprise-class applications and small organizations. SDT-11000 represents high-speed family of DDS 4 drives engineered by Sony. These drives feature robust read/write head, which improves data accuracy and reduces tape deterioration, thus ensuring rock solid reliability with modern time-critical applications. Sony DDS4 cartridge, part number DGD150PWW, features an exceptional 20/40 GB capacity.

Backup storage and retrieval processes are extremely fast with SDT-11000 tape drives. Sony DDS 4 drives store data at an enhanced speed of 2.4/4.8 Mbps. Therefore within an hour, the drive can backup a tremendous 17.28GB data.

DDS Manufacturers Group features the leading tape media giants. Therefore, the customers are taking advantage of the high-quality DDS devices, which are available at competitive prices. Other major DDS4 brands which can be used for long term archiving are 200028 (Maxell), 40963 (Imation), 59H4456 (IBM), 26047350 (Fuji), 09W083 (Dell) and C5718A (HP).

These newly-designed Sony DDS4 drives have special vents, which improve the airflow and prevent dust particles from entering the tape drive. This innovative approach helps to cool down the heat-producing drive components and provide a clean path for tape movement. Pollutant-free tape path area means longer working life and superior read-write reliability.

Sony SDT-11000 drive has not been designed to operate the DDS4 media cartridges, but can also write and retrieve data from its preceding three DDS generations. This facilitates the DDS customers to upgrade their system and take advantage of the business-critical data backed up on DDS1, DDS2 and DDS-3 tapes. So the IT managers can enjoy the benefits of enhanced performance and recording capacity, while keeping in touch with their previous backup data. With a remarkable 360MB/sec data searching speed, the I.T staff can quickly extract the required data file from the voluminous database, which is important in today’s competitive business environment.

The data buffer’s capacity has been increased to 10MB, which enables the Sony SDT-11000 drive to compress data at a faster rate and ensure consistent performance. So the I.T administrators can keep up with the organization’s exploding backup demands.

The base film of Sony DDS4 cartridge has a uniform surface and an ultra-fine magnetic layer. As a result, the noise level reduces significantly and the tape reel can seamlessly move through the drive area during high duty cycles. So the SDT-11000 drive achieves an unbeatable MTBF of 250,000 POH.

In today’s competitive and instrumented business world, you have to be on your toes all the time. With the rise of E-commerce, you need to transfer and receive tremendous data amounts and must ensure fast access. So the risk of data loss also increases and you must have a plan to handle such disastrous situations. Periodic data backups provide complete peace of mind in event of tampered or lost data.

Majority of the fast-paced business enterprises and data-rich companies across the globe trust LTO ultrium tape technology. HP Hewlett-Packard is the co-developer of this intelligent and economical tape-based format. HP’s LTO portfolio extends to the newest LTO-5 media tape system.

If you are a data administrator of medium or small organization, then you should install the first generation HP LTO-1 tape system. It offers ample storage capacity, exceptional compatibility and remarkable throughput speed. HP ultrium-232 is a robustly designed LTO1 drive and the C7971A is the LTO-1 media tape cartridge. HP LTO 1 tape stores native 100GB & compressed 200GB information. Its small size will help save more shelf space, whereas the higher storage capacity allows superior management of growing data volumes. You can retrieve the recorded data from HP C7971A ultrium tape by using any brand of LTO-3, LTO2 or LTO 1 drive. This exceptional media interoperability allows the HP LTO 1 customers to transfer their valuable and sensitive data across different LTO platforms.

HP ultrium-232 drives features robust and compact design architecture, along with a durable drive head to ensure precise data tracking and reduced tape friction. HP LTO 1 drive reliably stores huge amount of data at a speed of 115 GB/hour (compressed rate). The most powerful and cost-saving feature of this HP ultrium-232 drive is its ability to write & read all LTO1 media tape brands. So you won’t experience any problem when you are operating in a heterogeneous LTO environment. You don’t have to purchase new LTO drives to extract data from various brands of LTO 1 tapes. A single HP ultrium-232 can do this job efficiently, while maintaining highest level of reliability. For those who are curious about other famous LTO1 tape brands, I have mentioned here a few: LTX100G (Sony), D2404-100 (TDK), 183800 (Maxell), 41089 (Imation), 08L9120 (IBM) and 26200010 (Fuji).

HP C7971A ultrium cartridge comes standard with 4-K memory chip, which plays a key role in accelerating the media loading time and improving the data searching time. It has the robustness to withstand vibrations and reduce the risk of potential damage if it accidentally drops.

HP ultrium-232 drive supports a wider range of HP and non-HP servers. The HP-branded servers include 9000, Integrity, Proliant ML and ProLiant DL servers. On the other HP ultrium-232 drive can efficiently backup data from IBM, Sun and Dell-branded servers. Another exclusive feature introduced in Ultrium-232 drive is the “data rate matching” functionality. This innovative mechanism controls the drive speed and adjusts it accordingly with the server’s incoming speed. So the mechanical wear-and-tear of drive head is sharply reduced and the drive can seamlessly perform its operations.

Your organization’s sustainability is highly dependent on the availability of mission-critical data, and it’s no surprise that data security is on the top of mind of every business enterprise.  LTO ultrium tape format has been enjoying high market share in all market segments (small to large enterprises) since its introduction.  The major success factor is the multiple tape versions catering the specific needs of customers.

The latest LTO5 media tape format is now available, which has been specifically engineered to help organizations struggling with exploding data amounts. Performance and capacity of LTO ultrium5 format has been significantly improved. Most importantly, the storage capacity is in terabytes for uncompressed & compressed mode. 1.5 TB (native) is the storage capacity of this new durable LTO5 cartridge. The capacity of LTO5 backup tape has not been improved by adding longer tape reel, which would have obviously increased the cartridge size. Only the track density has been increased, so that the customers can get more storage capacity with a cartridge that is equivalent in size to its prior LTO4 tape.

The LTO5 tape system delivers unprecedented performance, and the good news is that you can further enhance the performance with the new state-of-the-art technology that has created a lot of buzz in storage industry, the “Backup Virtualization”. This advanced technology facilitates the I.T administrators to manage numerous backup applications with a single device. By centralizing all applications, the complexity reduces and data management becomes more efficient as you can control your operations from a single device. As a result, the IT managers will need lesser number of tape drives to manage the data storage operations, without degrading the performance level. So the I.T managers can get the best value from this powerful combination of LTO ultrium5 and backup virtualization technology.

LTO tape storage technology offers the powerful benefits of operating LTO media tapes with drives manufactured by different vendors. This remarkable media interoperability helps to reduce the operational cost and improve data availability. Industry-leading LTO5 tapes are MR-L5MQN-01 (Quantum), 229323 (Maxell), 46×1290 (IBM), LTX1500G (Sony), 16008030 (Fuji) and C7975A (HP).

SDLT tape, RDX removable disk cartridge, Travan tape and VXA tape are few of the other best selling backup formats. I.T environments that are ideal for LTO5 system are enterprise servers, demanding mid-sized companies and workstations. Existing customers of LTO4 and LTO3 upgrading to the LTO5 tape format won’t have to discard their tape cartridges, because they are compatible with LTO 5 drives. With backup virtualization technology, the users of LTO ultrium5 tape format can take advantage of its operational efficiency and capacity to the fullest.

This is one of the major reasons that the fast-paced business enterprises have well-received the new breakthrough LTO5 ultrium tape system.  “Media partitioning” feature debuts in LTO5 technology, which enables the users to perform multiple tasks. This breakthrough features provides customers two separate writable areas, thus elevating the storage performance. Regulatory compliance demands can also be met, as encryption and WORM technologies are supported by all LTO5 tape systems.

Natural catastrophes and system errors are some of the major threats that have forced the organizations to install a backup system in their primary data center. On the other hand, the I.T administrators have to manage extremely large amounts of data within their constrained resources, which is not an easy task. If you are struggling to handle these immense workloads, then it’s time to install the tape industry’s new breakthrough LTO-5 tape system.

With this new intelligent backup tape system, data-rich organizations can address the tough challenges of infrastructure complexity, regulatory compliance, enhanced security and reduced operational expenses. In short, the I.T staff can do more with minimal effort. As compared to LTO4 ultrium tape, the cartridge size is same but the capacity is 88% higher. Major factors behind the LTO5 ultrium technology’s huge success are superior compactness, greater compatibility, reliable data security and above all, the media partitioning functionality. Before the introduction of LTO-5 technology, this feature was exclusive to disk-based backup systems. On a single tape, you can easily create 2 partitions.

LTFS (Linear Tape File System) debuts in LTO5 system to make the backup operations more efficient, fast and economical. With new LTFS technology, the LTO ultrium-5 tape system provides users a solid platform to share and backup the data files just like they do it on a hard disk or any other removable storage device. LTO5 tape system is very user-friendly, just insert the tape into the drive and it will appear on the host system’s desktop as a drive letter. You can say that LTO5 ultrium tape behaves like a massive 3.0 TB USB drive, and is as user-friendly as any other storage device.

With all these reliable and innovative features, LTO 5 tape system supports a wider array of IT environments. LTO5 backup system is ideal for data mining, video archiving, workgroup backups, large data centers, midrange backup management, advanced computing systems and server backups. Performance of LTO5 drives also been significantly enhanced. A single LTO5 drive’s performance is equivalent to that of three LTO3 drives, whereas it is almost 15% faster than LTO4 tape drive.

LTO ultrium is the most dominant backup tape format. If you are curious about other best selling tape-based systems, the major technologies are SDLT tape, DAT tape, SLR tape, AIT tape, DLT tape, Travan tape and VXA tape. Maxell, Tandberg, HP, Sony, Dell, Quantum, Fuji and many other tape media giants have included the new generation LTO-5 products to their portfolio, thus leading to superior media quality, greater customer choice and competitive prices.

LTO ultrium 5 tape system improves data management, reduces storage costs and provides the robust data protection needed to satisfy the increasing government legislations. The LTO5 drives also offer the compelling benefit of using your previous generation tapes, LTO-4 for read/write and LTO-3 for data read operations. So the existing LTO customers can multiply their tape resources and take advantage of the LTO5 system’s superior performance.

The Toshiba Portege R835-P81 13.3-inch LED Laptop is a very surprising PC. First, there’s the size. At 12.44 by 8.94 by 1.5 inches and weighing in at a mere 3.2 pounds, you can easily hand-carry this laptop with you wherever you go.

It is a small laptop with some big features. For example, not only is it equipped with Windows 7 and all the capabilities it offers, but it is also equipped with 6GB of SDRAM – expandable to 8 GB – right from the box. In addition, the R835-P81 includes a high-resolution LED display so that images appear crisply and cleanly in at 1366 by 768 resolution, also the native mode for high-definition video. Indeed, the R835-P81 offers one a single-cable output of high-definition audio and video so that you only need one add-on device to satisfy the needs of those who want to use the R835-P81 as the source mode for high-definition displays.

Making use of the graphics chipset, the Portege R835-P81 offers one some innovative video technology including 3D capability, something that is hard to find in a PC of this price class. Indeed, the video chipset uses 1.3 GB of the memory for its own purposes so the image updates are instant. Indeed, operating in TurboBoost mode – 3 GHz – the entire laptop seems geared for near instant action. That action is helped by the built in 1333 MHz front-side bus which moves data around the motherboard and updates things with surprising speed.

The screen, admittedly, is on the small side at 13.3 inches (diagonal), however the TrueBrite technology that it offers more than makes up for the smaller-sized screen as you can display just about any image you want to display either through the Gigabit Ethernet (wired) interface or the WiFi 801.11 a/b/g/n interface as well. The Portege, always a lighter version of Toshiba’s larger Satellite series, is a serious computer for the serious user.

Indeed, it offers not only two standard USB 2.0 interfaces, but also upgrades another one to USB 3.0 for higher-speed output or more interface options.

The Portege R835-P81 was engineered from the ground up with portability and high-performance capability in mid, so it’s little wonder that the standard lithium-ion battery can run the laptop for up to 8 hours (some say it could be 9) but, depending on what one is actually doing, it is more likely the 8 figure is the best one to use.

The Portege R835-P81 is no slouch in any situation, however, one will have to add their own webcam if they are planning to do any videoconferencing or chatting as the Portege R835-P81 does not offer a forward-webcam. One has to realize that to get all of the capability that the Portege already has built in, including a 640 GB 5400-spin SATA hard disk drive and a SuperWrite DVD -+RW drive that can handle just about any format, one has to give up something and the camera is the first item to go. One can easily interface one’s own.

One could go on and on talking about the features on this mini-sized, lightweight laptop – no, it is definitely not a netbook – but what would that prove, other than than that the raves for this Toshiba are well earned.
